The Mountain Area Healthcare Preparedness Coalition is dedicated to organizing individual healthcare assets through cooperative planning, information sharing and management coordination to ensure that healthcare organizations have the support they need in order to optimally provide care to western North Carolina residents and visitors.
The Mountain Area Healthcare Preparedness Coalition includes over 80 healthcare agencies in the 17 westernmost counties (including EBCI) of North Carolina, and is one of eight coalitions in the state developed to aid in regional disaster preparedness and response. Over the past several years, in preparation for disastrous events, Coalition members have collaborated to train response personnel and build a large cache of medical-response supplies and equipment.
MAHPC is part of North Carolina’s State Medical Response System (SMRS) – a system of community-response partners including public health, Emergency Medical Services, long-term care, community healthcare centers, hospitals, State Medical Assistance Teams (SMAT), and the Mountain Region Medical Reserve Corps (MRMRC).
MAHPC strives to meet all disaster-related educational and training needs, including incident command system (ICS), hospital incident command system (HICS), disaster/mass casualty triage, facility evacuation, disaster medical care, decontamination, emergency preparedness and response, and disaster communications.
